Hey, I’m Katja.

I’m a UX and Product Designer specialising in design systems, accessibility, content, and design operations. I design experiences and systems that make life easier for end-users, designers, and developers alike.

My strength lies in building and evolving design systems. I create scalable, accessible UI patterns and foundational styles, backed by clear documentation and well-structured Figma libraries that support ease of use and alignment across teams. I work closely with developers and have hands-on experience with HTML and CSS, which helps me design components that are not only user friendly but also practical to implement and maintain.

Accessibility is always front of mind. I take the time to understand how people interact with digital content, especially people with cognitive, sensory or motor challenges, so I can uncover overlooked barriers and design experiences that work better for everyone.

I also bring experience in content design and design operations. I’ve written accessible service and learning content that transforms complex ideas into formats that are easy to understand and use. On the design ops side, I improve how teams work together by streamlining workflows, scaling Figma systems, building out documentation, and establishing clear practices for managing governance. I enjoy creating clarity and cohesion in how design happens, not just what it looks like.

When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me wandering through nature, jogging (very very slowly), drawing and crafting.

Career highlights

One of my proudest projects focused on improving accessibility for users with dyslexia and lower literacy. Through research, I identified how underlined hyperlinks were creating friction for readers. This insight became the foundation for a set of accessibility-first patterns applied across all interaction states of 14 navigational components. The patterns addressed overlooked cognitive barriers and were scalable, adaptable, and consistent—supporting over 10,000 government web pages and becoming core to multiple design systems. This work helped set new accessibility standards and has been recognised globally, with my articles on the process shared across multiple languages.

Right now, I’m involved in a large-scale digital transformation, upgrading the design system for a high-traffic, content-rich website with thousands of pages and multiple editors managing content through a CMS. My focus is on migrating legacy components and page templates to a modern, scalable design system, ensuring consistency, usability, and a seamless transition for site visitors.
